HEX

Distributed communications. One network. No central dependency
Communications and sensor systems
Research
HEX is Darlein Defense’s modular hardware and software platform for building autonomous distributed MESH networks.

About the project

The system is designed to bring users, vehicles, robotic platforms, unmanned systems, wearable electronics, and remote sensors together into a unified communications infrastructure.
Unlike traditional networks with a mandatory central node, the MESH architecture allows information to be relayed through several compatible devices, each of which can take part in data exchange.
HEX is being designed as a universal communications layer of the Darlein Defense ecosystem, with the ability to integrate third-party hardware and software solutions.

One network for the whole team

Communications should adapt to the infrastructure rather than depend on a single connection point
Traditional communication systems often require a constant connection to centralized infrastructure.
In distributed conditions, connection availability can change, and individual devices may temporarily lose contact with other participants.
HEX is designed to create a network in which compatible devices can discover available connections and take part in data exchange without requiring a constant internet connection.
The network is viewed as a unified digital infrastructure for transmitting messages, telemetry, and other authorized information between connected systems.

Capabilities

Distributed architecture. Common standards
Dynamic topology
Data transmission management
Autonomous storage
Infrastructure monitoring
01 / 04
1
Dynamic topology
A network that takes available connections into account
The architecture provides for discovering compatible network nodes and updating information about connection availability.
When the network composition changes, software components can take the new topology into account in line with the supported protocols.
02 / 04
2
Data transmission management
Different applications. Different requirements
HEX provides for mechanisms to classify network traffic and manage data transmission based on connection characteristics.
Specific capabilities depend on the hardware, protocols, and network configuration used.
03 / 04
3
Autonomous storage
Operation when the connection is temporarily unavailable
Compatible applications will be able to store data locally and synchronize it once an available connection is restored.
04 / 04
4
Infrastructure monitoring
Network status in a single interface
The interface is designed to display connected equipment, device availability, technical metrics, and diagnostic events.
Monitoring tools make it possible to track the state of the infrastructure and plan its maintenance.

Open architecture

Not just our own hardware. A unified integration platform
HEX is being designed as an extensible communications ecosystem that provides for compatibility with various classes of devices and software solutions.
In the future, the platform may include
Documented software interfaces
SDK for third-party developers
Integration of compatible hardware
Software diagnostic tools
Device configuration management
Infrastructure monitoring tools
Connection of third-party information systems
Open interfaces make it possible to grow the ecosystem without having to disclose the source code of all platform components.
